Homarus Americanus
In the spring of 2020, I began printing lobsters as a quiet response to a moment of deep unrest and loss in our coastal community. Amid tensions in the fishery, an image of lifeless lobsters scattered on pavement stayed with me—too haunting to forget. I turned to my hands and to ink, pressing one lobster after another onto paper, not to recreate the violence, but to transform it.
These prints are gestures of connection—to the lobster, to the waters that sustain us, and to the enduring relationship between nature and the people of Nova Scotia. Each one is a hand-pulled gyotaku, printed in my studio with care and gratitude.
I offer this series as an invitation to pause, honour, and reflect on the quiet resilience that lives within us all.
